Frequently Asked Questions
How much do lessons cost?
The price of lessons depends on many factors, such as the location of the lesson (virtual, in studio, in home) and the length of the lesson (30, 45, 60 min). Please contact me for exact prices.
Do I need to have a piano at home?
It is required for a beginner student to have access to a keyboard at home. While it does not have to be an acoustic piano quite yet (though it is recommended), the keyboard should have weighted keys, fixed pedals, and 88 keys. Upon beginning lessons with me, I will be happy to help students decide what keyboard is best and provide resources. Of course, an acoustic piano will always be the best option, as it will provide the true feel of the piano and can last students through their piano studies and lifetime. A student will eventually outgrow a digital keyboard.
Do you give makeup lessons?
I require that students give me at least 24 hours notice of cancellation in order to be offered a makeup lesson. If I cancel the lesson, a makeup lesson will be scheduled right away. Students and parents can find more information about makeup lessons, tardiness, and sick days in my Studio Policy.
What ages do you teach?
I have experience teaching all ages! I recommend a student to be at least 5 years old to get the full benefits of lessons, but it is possible for a child even younger to start lessons. Lessons for children under 5 years old will be geared towards music appreciation and music activities to keep the little ones engaged.
I want to start lessons! What are my next steps?
Wonderful! You can click here to send me your information.
What is the questionnaire?
The questionnaire is a form filled with questions for me to get to know you and your child better as we start lessons. As I mentioned in my teaching philosophy, all my lessons are tailored to each individual student, and in order for me to be able to do this, I need to know more about the student. Piano lessons are an investment and I want to make every minute with my student count.
How often does the student have to practice?
The student must dedicate time to practice and homework assignments everyday. Piano lessons not only provide the ability to play piano, but provide wonderful life tools such as discipline and diligence. Upon beginning lessons, I will provide a sheet for parents and students on "How to Practice" and "Tips for Efficient Practice."
Are there performance opportunities?
Of course! There are two studio recitals in the Spring and Winter every year where students can showcase all their hard work over the course of six months. This is a tremendous opportunity for the child to hone in on their confidence, perseverance, and accomplishments. Each student receives a DVD of the recital. Students will have the option to compete in competitions and masterclasses as well.
